Setting the Record Straight: The Truth About Trinity Towers

Let’s talk about something important that’s been swirling around in the news lately. Quincy Ayodele Ayodele, a respected elder at the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), City of David Parish, has come forward to clear up some misconceptions. Specifically, he wants everyone to know that the late Herbert Wigwe, the iconic chairman of Access Holdings, didn’t foot the entire bill for the construction of the church’s iconic Trinity Towers.

Now, let’s back up a little. This all started after the tragic helicopter crash on February 9, 2024, where Herbert Wigwe, his wife, and their son lost their lives. The shock of this event reverberated across Nigeria, not just in the business world but also deeply within the RCCG community. But just days after the tragedy, another story emerged that sparked controversy: the lavish 60th birthday celebration of Siju Iluyomade, the wife of the former parish pastor, Idowu Iluyomade.

A Question of Timing and Perception

Here’s where things got a little sticky. Many people began to question the timing of the birthday bash, especially given the close relationship between the Iluyomade family and Herbert Wigwe. Some even suggested that Wigwe had personally funded the construction of the church, making the celebration seem tone-deaf. But Ayodele wants to set the record straight.

  • In a recent interview with media personality Daddy Freeze, Ayodele clarified the situation. He emphasized that Trinity Towers, the magnificent structure that serves as a landmark for the City of David Parish, wasn’t built by Herbert Wigwe alone. Instead, it was the result of the combined efforts and contributions of all the church members, including Wigwe himself. Ayodele explained, “Pastor Herbert Wigwe did not single-handedly build Trinity Towers. It was a product of the collective efforts of all members of the City of David Parish, including him.”

    Emotional Turmoil Amid Tragedy

Ayodele also opened up about the emotional turmoil that followed the tragedy. He shared that he wasn’t even in the country when the news of Wigwe’s passing broke. When he learned about the birthday celebration, his initial reaction was one of confusion. “I wasn’t in the country at the time, so when I heard about the birthday party, I thought maybe Mummy (Iluyomade’s wife) finally gave her approval for it to go ahead,” he recounted. “But the next day, I started reading reports from UK-based blogs, and I was shocked.”

What Ayodele is saying here is crucial. He’s reminding everyone that the RCCG is a community of faith, and its achievements are the result of shared effort and sacrifice. It’s not about one person carrying the entire load. In times of tragedy, it’s easy for misunderstandings to arise, but Ayodele is working hard to ensure that the truth comes to light.

So, as we reflect on the life and legacy of Herbert Wigwe, let’s remember the broader picture. He was a beloved member of the RCCG community, and his contributions were significant, but they were part of a larger tapestry of shared commitment and faith. Let’s honor his memory by focusing on the positive impact he had and the values he stood for.
