According to Naija News, the FCT Command spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, shared the details of this daring rescue in a statement released on Sunday. Lieutenant Akoh and the two other victims were saved thanks to the combined efforts of the police and the military, showcasing the power of teamwork when it comes to tackling crime.

Inside the Kidnapping Incident

Here’s the backstory: On March 21, a group of kidnappers launched a brazen attack at the Maman Vatsa Estate gate, causing chaos and blocking Mpape Road. The criminals demanded a staggering ransom of ₦500 million for Lieutenant Akoh and ₦200 million each for the two civilians. It was a high-stakes situation that required quick thinking and decisive action from authorities.

Adeh revealed that the kidnapped individuals were held captive in a Fulani resettlement area located in Anguwan Mu’azu and Yelwa Hills, Nasarawa State. The location was remote and challenging to access, but that didn’t stop the authorities from mounting an aggressive rescue mission.

Arrests Made, Ransom Money Recovered

As part of the operation, four suspects were apprehended, and a substantial amount of money—₦3.2 million—was seized. Authorities believe this cash is linked to previous kidnapping activities, indicating the broader scope of criminal operations in the region. “When we received the distress call, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations), FCT Police Command, DCP Isyaku Sharu, quickly coordinated with military authorities to launch a joint operation,” Adeh explained. “This operation was spearheaded by the Police Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit and included personnel from the Nigerian military, DSS hunters, and even members of the local Hunters’ Group.”

The search-and-rescue mission was nothing short of intense. It covered vast areas, including Mpape, Gidan Bawa, Anguwan Mu’azu, and Yelwa Hills, spanning both the Federal Capital Territory and Nasarawa State. The operation was meticulously planned and executed during the early hours of March 23, 2025, between 2:00 AM and 5:30 AM.

“Based on reliable intelligence, our operatives traced the suspects to a Fulani resettlement in Anguwan Mu’azu and Yelwa Hills, Nasarawa State. There, we arrested four suspects and rescued the victims unharmed. The ₦3.2 million we recovered is believed to be ransom money from earlier kidnappings,” Adeh added.

Thankfully, the victims are in stable condition and are currently receiving medical care at the Nigerian Army Clinic. The FCT Police Command reassured the public that efforts are ongoing to track down the remaining suspects who are still on the run. To prevent future incidents, security has been significantly strengthened in Mpape and surrounding areas.
