Relocation of Ex-Governor Amid Political Storm

Naija News has learned that Siminalayi Fubara, the suspended Governor of Rivers State, has taken his family to Bayelsa State following the declaration of a state of emergency. This dramatic turn of events unfolded after President Bola Tinubu’s bold decision on March 18 to suspend Governor Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Odu, and all elected members of the Rivers State House of Assembly for a period of six months. The aim? To bring much-needed order and stability back to the state.

Political Chaos Sparks Presidential Intervention

The decision to declare a state of emergency didn’t come out of the blue. For months, Rivers State has been caught in the grip of escalating political unrest. At the heart of the chaos is a bitter feud between Governor Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike. This feud has spiraled out of control, leading to violent clashes, legislative gridlock, and a flurry of legal disputes. The result? A state administration that’s effectively paralyzed. It was this alarming state of affairs that prompted President Tinubu to step in and suspend key state officials.

Bayelsa Governor Opens Doors to Fubara

According to credible sources cited by TheStreetJournal, Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri extended an offer of refuge to Fubara and his family amidst the ongoing turmoil. On Wednesday, March 19, Fubara and his family made the move to the Bayelsa State Government House, leaving behind the Rivers State Government House in Port Harcourt. The relocation was carried out with a reduced security presence, though some Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs) and security personnel remained stationed at the premises. After their departure, the Government House was described as relatively quiet, a stark contrast to the tension that had previously gripped the area.

His appointment is a strategic move aimed at resolving the deepening political conflict and restoring stability to Rivers State, which has been grappling with internal divisions and disputes between the governor and state lawmakers.

In these challenging times, the focus is on bringing peace and order to a state that’s been through a lot. With Admiral Ibas at the helm, there’s hope that the people of Rivers State will soon see brighter days ahead.
