PDP Issues Warning to Nyesom Wike: Expulsion May Be on the Horizon

Now, listen up, folks. The Rivers State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has thrown down the gauntlet, warning the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, that continued political unrest in the state could result in his expulsion from the party. This isn't just a casual threat; it's a direct line drawn in the sand.

Acting Chairman Robinson Ewor Speaks Out

At a press conference held in Port Harcourt on Tuesday, Robinson Ewor, the acting state chairman of the PDP, laid it all out there. According to reports from Naija News, Ewor accused Wike of engaging in activities that are not only anti-party but could lead to his suspension or outright expulsion. This is serious business, and Ewor made it crystal clear that the party has mechanisms in place to deal with such situations.

Ewor said, “The party has a robust system for handling internal conflicts. Whether it's the National Executive Committee (NEC), the National Working Committee (NWC), or the state executive committees, they all have the authority to act against anyone who undermines the party. Once we reclaim full control of the party in Rivers State, Nyesom Wike will be held accountable for his actions. These actions could lead to his suspension or expulsion from the PDP.”

The PDP has accused Wike of actions that have tarnished the party's reputation. Ewor pointed out that Wike's current role as Minister in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's cabinet raises questions about his loyalty. It seems like Wike might be wearing two hats, and as Ewor put it, "You cannot serve two masters." The party believes that Wike's actions have weakened the PDP's standing and damaged its reputation.

Ewor added, “Wike is serving in Tinubu's government, and his allegiance appears to be with the All Progressives Congress (APC). His actions have undermined the PDP, and we will act accordingly at the right moment.”

    Supreme Court Ruling Sparks Controversy

The PDP has also taken issue with a recent Supreme Court ruling that declared Martins Amaewhule and 26 other lawmakers had not defected from the party. The PDP insists that these lawmakers, including Amaewhule, had already jumped ship to the APC. They even have an affidavit from the Abuja High Court and public announcements from the House of Assembly that support their claim.

Ewor stated, “The Supreme Court may have made an error in this case. Amaewhule and the 26 lawmakers are no longer members of the PDP. We have undeniable proof, including the affidavit they signed, confirming they were welcomed by the APC.”

PDP Stands Behind Governor Siminalayi Fubara

Despite the ongoing tension, the PDP has expressed full support for Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his commitment to implementing the Supreme Court's ruling for the betterment of Rivers State. Ewor appealed to the 27 lawmakers to reconsider their stance and align with the governor for the good of the state.

Ewor said, “We commend Governor Fubara for standing firmly behind the Supreme Court’s judgment. We urge the 27 lawmakers to join forces with the governor and focus on what truly matters—serving the people of Rivers State.”

In a final appeal, the PDP urged Nyesom Wike to "sheath his sword" and allow peace to return to Rivers State. Ewor emphasized that such a move would enable Governor Fubara to concentrate on governance and provide the leadership the state desperately needs.

Ewor concluded, “We urge Wike to let peace prevail so that Governor Fubara can focus on the development of the state. This ongoing conflict is diverting attention from the critical work that needs to be done for the people of Rivers State.”
